Wine words: Veraison

It's the time of year when grapes are starting to turn from green to various shades of purple (or red, blue, black...), or in the case of grapes that stay green like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, a darker shade of green. This process is known as verasion, and it's when the grapes begin to ripen. If you're following any wineries on social media, I bet you'll start to notice photos of grapes - usually ones turning purple because it's easier to spot in a photo - that are in the process of changing color and the hashtag #veraison now that you've learned the words. It always seems to work that way, doesn't it.
