A round up of the news from December 22 - December 28, 2020 on the East Coast wine industry because the news is out there, and it needs to be highlighted.

  • Wine columnist Frank Morgan extols the virtues of dry Riesling in a piece for The Virginian-Pilot. While the article focuses on the wine style from regions around the globe, Mid-Atlantic wineries from Virginia and and New York's Finger Lakes are mentioned, too.

  • A recent Drink Philly local winery spotlight is on Vox Vineti in Christiana, Pennyslvania. Adam Schmidt says the Old World, French-style wine made at the 10-year-old winery is "impressive, to say the least."

  • Mural City Cellars is a new urban winery in Philadelphia that uses local grapes such as Cabernet Franc and Chambourcin grown in New Jersey as well as others grapes from small wine growers within 300 miles. Michael Klein writes for the Philadelphia Inquirer that owners Nicholas Ducos and Francesca Galarus plan to open the winery located in the Kensington section of the city in January. (possible paywall)

  • Alex Biese and Tracy Schuhmacher wrote about several 2020 survival stories for Asbury Park Press, and tell the story of Céline and Sébastien LeSeurre, owners of Domaine LeSeurre Winery in New York’s Finger Lakes wine region, who got stranded in France when lockdown began. They weren't able to return for five months, but neighbors in the wine region stepped up and took care of their wines and winery property until the couple and their children could return from France. (possible paywall)

  • Wine Casual's Reggie Solomon recently spent 5 days traversing through New Jersey's wine regions, and he's written a series of pieces on his website highlighting what he discovered on the trip. In addition to several single bottle reviews, he's also written a few broader informative and thorough overview pieces including: A Wine Geek's Guide to 14 top New Jersey Wineries and Choice Wines to Try During Your Winetasting Visits New Jesrsey Wine 101: It's Time to Take a Look at New Jersey Wine Review: White Horse Winery Farmhouse: A Modern, Boutique BnB in New Jersey Wine Country (A quick note. I was on the same trip Reggie Solomon was on, and I pop up in a few of the photos on his website.)
